1974 TARHUNA, LIBYA

Dear friends,

Like you, I have been learning all through life and continue doing so all along, hence, a life-long student.

On an official tour of Libya, I was transported to the home of a high government official in a state of emergency. It was immediately noticeable that the 40 y/o man was breathing his last with CHF (Congestive heart failure). Family and friends were all around him, women of course clad in Hijab, Niqab and Burqas.

Before I could fill a diuretic syringe, the man crossed the boundary line to the Other World. Suddenly, there was chaos where there had been pin drop silence. Strangely, the ensuing chaos had nothing to do with death. There was a heated argument going on between the 25+ men and women. Majority of those present were trying to take the bereaved, crying widow to another room on the grounds that “Shari’ah does not allow a woman to see the face of her husband after death.” They maintained that marriage is a bond of two souls and when the husband’s soul has departed, he becomes a GHAIR MAHRAM (a stranger who is out of the family). So, his wife cannot see his face. They added to my precious knowledge that a reverse situation where the wife had died was no matter of contention. “There is IJMAA’ (unanimity of Mullahs) that a husband seeing his widow’s face is “absolutely Haraam.” I asked them gently if there was such an ordinance present in the Qur’an or even in Hadith. Instead of answering, they started looking at each others’ face.

Soon I learned that the non-issue was a grievous matter almost in all Muslim countries.

Will God help us? I have my doubts.

There was a fire in the frying pan while the ladies at our home were working in the kitchen. They called me immediately for help after dialing 911. The flames were astonishingly high; five feet, and got hold of the kitchen cabinets. All I had to do was use the fire extinguisher that had been installed right in the kitchen. The speed of the fire and the efficacy of the extinguisher both astonished us although the kitchen was destroyed. It took only two seconds to extinguish the huge fire, thank God. The fire truck took 8 minutes to arrive during which time the entire house could have burned.

Seeing the five feet high flames and not knowing the speed and efficacy of the fire extinguisher, my initial reaction was to place the frying pan on the ground. It caused a third degree burn on the dorsum of my right hand followed by some infection. It is still under treatment and healing slowly but steadily. That’s why you might have noticed my scant presence on the Internet and youtube.com/drshabbir1.

Of course, a lot of friends and acquaintances have been visiting us since then.

The funny part: A local ‘Maulana’ Saheb was among the early visitors. I thank him for his courtesy. But he said, “Dear Doctor Saheb! It was a folly to use the fire extinguisher. You should have had enough faith to put your trust in Allah and recited, RABBANA AATINA FID-DUNIYA HASANATAN-WWA- FIL-AAKHIRATI HASANATAN-WWA-QINA ‘AZAABANNAAR. (Our Lord! Give us in this world all that is good and in the Hereafter all that is good and save us from the doom of fire.) And the fire would have been put out without doing the least bit of harm to the house and to you. But you trusted in equipment rather than trusting Allah.”

This reminded me of:

1. The Ottoman Sultan Saleem Pasha: He declared the use of firearms Haraam against a war with UK saying that it would be against the Sunnah; Muslims could fight with swords and arrows and nothing else.

2. When Russia invaded Bukhara, the Mufti Azam of Bukhara came up with a verdict: Let Bukhari Sharif be constantly recited in all Masjids. The enemy would soon turn their back.

3. Nizamul Mulk Toosi, the founder of DARS NIZAMI, exclaimed, “O Emperor! God has appointed you as the monarch of such a vast empire. Should you not be grateful to Him? The arrows cast by your archers will not travel beyond 30 yards, but even the sky, a vast shield, cannot measure the arrows of prayers flung by the army of my madrasahs.” To this, Sultan Malik Shah Saljuki fervently replied, “O My talented Vizier! We will produce such an army without the least delay!”

The consequences are obvious and need no comment.

Reminder: If you do not have fire extinguishers at home, please buy them and teach your family how simply they can be used. This was the main purpose of sharing the experience with our respected viewers.

Some of the horrors of menstruation that the N2I women must endure, along with their menfolk, are not only lifted from Hinduism, where women cannot even enter a temple or the family shrine-room, but also from Judaism.

Judaism has such contempt for menstruating women that a man cannot even sit on a seat where a menstruating woman might have sat. So the most observant Jewish males will never use the seats on any form of public transport: they’ll stand the entire way, just in case the seat was previously occupied by a menstruating woman! (Do they think “it’s catching”?)

Orthodox Jewish married couples always have separate beds so that they are not sleeping in the same bed during menstruation. And after menstruation is over, the Orthodox Jewish women must go to a special ritual bath (mikvah) and immerse themselves to restore their purity and cleanliness.

There’s something deeply superstitious and misogynistic about all this fuss over a natural function…

THE DIVORCE PROCEDURE

I frequently receive calls from bewildered couples when the husband has uttered TALAQ three times and then every Mullah and the common person wrongly asserts that divorce has indeed taken place. From then on, eating or drinking at their homes becomes Haraam and incurs divorce on the visiting couples! Even if a husband tells his wife, “If you did this, you will be divorced”, and she does it, irrevocable divorce takes place instantly according to these ignorant Muslims. All this is the result of forsaking the Qur’an.

Muslims in general get confused at the hands of Mullahs, the so-called Ulama. The obvious reason is their abandonment of the Book of Allah. Here is the clear, Ultimate Qur’anic Guidance.

THERE IS NO DIVORCE UNDER DURESS

The Qur’an gives some very important and clear Laws for divorce 2:228 (The couple may reconcile even during ‘Iddah = Waiting period before the wife’s remarriage), 4:6 (Both must be able to understand their finances before marriage), 4:19 (No such thing as Khula’! Women have the right to divorce as well. Both must be able to grant free consent), 4:35 (Marriage is a very solemn, legal contract. Two wise arbiters must try to reconcile between the husband and wife for three months), 58:1-3 (Foolish utterances do not count), 65:1-4 (Never expel divorced women from THEIR homes. Their must be two witnesses in writing for divorce).

NO ROOM FOR INSTANT DIVORCE: According to the Qur’an, there is absolutely no room for an instant divorce. The process must take months with involvement of arbiters in order to allow reconciliation between the husband and wife.

THE QUR’AN DISREGARDED: It is highly unfortunate and shameful that Muslim jurists have been ignoring and practically revoking these clear verses of the Book of Allah for centuries, in favor of their own conjecture. According to their exploitative and erroneous edicts, if a husband utters the word “Divorce” three times in anger or under any kind of duress or even in a stage drama or movie, divorce takes effect instantly. What a mockery of the Qur’an! They are then decrared unlawful for each other and anyone eating or drinking in their homes commits Haraam!

THE SOMERSAULT: It is interesting to note that the so called Fuqaha (Jurist Mullahs) who otherwise uphold Hadith in preference to the Word of Allah, conveniently disregard even their ‘treasure’ whenever it suits their whims or purpose. In this instance, there is a Hadith in Ibn Majah. The exalted Prophet is reported to have said, La talaqa fil Ighlaq = There is absolutely no divorce under any kind of duress, coercion, suddenness, anger etc. This Hadith which is in total harmony with the Qur’an remains obscure to or hidden by the Ulama.

HOMES BELONG TO WOMEN: 65:1 O Prophet! When you men intend to divorce women, make sure that the waiting period is observed. Keep precise account of this interim period. Be mindful of Allah, your Lord. Never expel them from THEIR homes, nor shall they themselves leave their homes unless they commit open immorality. —-.

 TWO WITNESSES FOR DIVORCE, 65:2 And so, when they have reached their waiting term, either retain them in kindness or part with them in kindness. And let there be two just persons among you to witness, and establish the evidence straight for Allah. —–.

ARBITERS: Three months of attempts to effect reconciliation by arbiters is one of the pre-requisites for divorce. 4:35 (Families and communities must adopt a proactive approach regarding a husband and a wife in discord). If you fear a breach between a husband and wife, appoint two arbiters, one from his family and one from her family. If they decide to reconcile, Allah will help them get together. Verily, Allah is Knower, Aware.

THE ENTIRE DIVORCE PROCEDURE ALLOWED TWICE IN A LIFETIME:
2:229 In a given couple’s lifetime, a divorce is permissible twice. (The whole period of divorce i.e. three menstruations / three months, or until delivery can be taken back twice). ——.

HALAALAH OR HARAAMAH? Here comes the most shameful deed unique to the Mullahs in the whole world. They maintain that for reconciliation, the senselessly divorced woman has to go through Halaalah (planned marriage with another man for one night followed by divorce in the morning. And it must involve sexual intercourse!). Mullahs offer their own “Noble Services” for being the bridegroom for one night and even charge a hefty fee for it! “Authorized” Halaalah offices abound in many so-called Muslim countries!

2:230 If a man divorces his wife on a third different time during their marital life, it shall be unlawful for him to remarry her. It may so happen that the woman marries another man, and those two do not get along, and the other husband divorces her. In that case, there is nothing wrong if both (the previous couple) decide to come together again, if they consider that they will be able to observe the Limits set by Allah. These Limits have been made clear for people to make use of the Divine gift of knowledge (and make no crookedness in the Straight Path). [There is no room in the Qur’an for the so-called ‘Halalah’, a shameful, manmade custom where a divorced woman is made to spend an intimate night with another man under wedlock with a preplanned divorce in the morning! I call it ‘Haramah’]

THERE IS NO ROOM FOR KHULA’: The word Khula‘ does not appear in the Qur’an. It is an Imamist fabrication meaning that a woman seeking divorce has to go to a court of law begging for it, a process that takes upto 30 years in the “Muslim” societies). 4:19 O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! It is not lawful for you to force women into marrying or holding on to them in marriage against their will. ——.

THE MULLAH APOLOGY: “Dr. Saheb, you are right. The divorce should occur in accordance with the Qur’anic Rules. But if a husband utters ‘Talaq, Talaq, Talaq’, it does take place since if a bullet is fired three times, the victim dies.”

What! Where did Allah say that? Can’t a person die of a single shot?

Here is a fabricated saying ascribed to the exalted Prophet: Passing by a group of women the Rasool (S) said, “Give charity O Women! Most of you women will be in the Hellfire because you are Naaqisaati ‘Aqlinw-Wad-Deen (Deficient in Intellect and Religion).”

A woman protested why they would be in the Hellfire, and how they are deficient in intellect and Deen. Then he went ahead to explain that women cannot pray or fast during menstruation and the witness of a woman equals one half of a man’s witness.  Ref: [Hadith Bukhari (volume 1) Kitabul Haidh (The Book of Menstruation) chapter 208, Tarke Hayedis Saum (Leaving of Saum by a menstruating woman) Hadith # 295]

Without any doubt, you will find Mullahs and Mullanis trying to defend and rationalize even this great insult.

Nevertheless, there is nothing to that effect in the Qur’an.

For the question on witness, please see verse 2:282. First of all, the matter under discussion only pertains to a deed of loan. The verse says that two men (not one) should witness the signing of the document. If two men are not available, then let there be one man and two women, all of them you satisfactorily consider competent as witnesses - so that even if the witnessing woman gets distracted (for example, by her baby), the accompanying woman may  support and remind her. Hence, the second woman is not a witness in the court of law. She will not speak to the court. She is there only to support and remind the witnessing woman if she gets distracted.

1971:

My first female patient in KSA, when describing her menstrual status, stunned me by saying, “I took bath from it yesterday.” What! Read on.

Allah forbids nothing but sexual intimacy during menstruation.

2:222 They ask you about menstruation. Say, “It is an inconvenience. So keep away from intimacy with women during menstruation and approach them not until they are rid of it. Once they are rid of it, you may approach them (your wives) for intimate relations in the manner designed for you by God. Indeed, God loves those who turn to Him for guidance and He loves those who stay clear of false dogmas.” [See 2:223. Mutatahhireen = Mutahharoon = Those who are clean = Clean of mind 56:79. ‘manner designed by God’ = Ways of God in Nature 2:282, 5:4, 96:5]

But the Muslim clergy makes this physiological phenomenon a horrible thing forbidding what Allah has not forbidden.

Most Muslim women patients, especially Middle Eastern, tell the doctor of their last periods in a specific manner e.g. “I took bath from it on that day and date.”

 -          So, taking a bath during menstruation is almost Haraam (Forbidden).

-          No male members will bathe in the same bath room until after the next prayer time.

-          Following the Hindu trait, many Muslim women avoid going to the kitchen during those days.

-          Touching the Qur’an and reading it, praying, fasting are all Forbidden.

-   During Qur’an “Khwani” gatherings which are usually fashion shows,, you might have seen a few women sitting aside in a corner silently but shamelessly announcing to public that “they are under the weather.” Why should they come in the first place? Fashion show.

 -     Even Hajj is nullified if a woman gets her periods during the days of Hajj. Women pilgrims go there well-stocked with birth control pills in order to delay their periods.

-          For some of them, sitting on a bed, even her husband’s or child’s bed, will render it ‘Najis’ (unclean). If any male family member sits on that bad, he too will become ‘Najis’ requiring instant ‘cleansing’ bath.

-   The top class N2I women, following their Mullahs, won’t even breast feed their babies during the periods.

SIKHS GET FLOGGED IN YEMEN

While supervising a project on preventive health care in Sana’a, Yemen, I witnessed something that made me weep and laugh at the same time. It was the month of Ramadhan (‘fasting’) and a dozen Sikh laborers were in police custody. Their crime? They were “caught” eating lunch in their truck.

The unmistakably colorful turbans and unshaven beards covered with special finely interwoven nettings could even tell a child that they were not Muslims, but rather Sikhs. Unfortunately, the poor laborers did not speak a word of Arabic while the local ‘Shurtah’ police knew not a word of English.

The poor Sikhs were taken as Muslims, presented to a blind Qadhi (judge), and in the next five minutes, the decree was announced. Each of them was to receive 45 hard lashes.

After the Friday prayers, their hands were tied and shirts removed in the presence of hundreds of spectators for “humiliation that would remain a lesson”. We were on tour in ambulances and could immediately discern the dilemma. The “guilty” were screaming in Punjabi that they were not Muslims, and, of course, they were not.

But the chief of police was foolish and stubborn. He insisted that they were “caught red-handed” eating during the time of fasting and that the twelve had compounded their “crime” by dishonoring Ramadhan.

I told him that they were non-Muslims, and therefore, not subject the Yemenite religious law but the chief said, “Why! They have beards and turbans. Why would they dress like Muslims? They have dishonored Ramadhan and the judge has already passed the sentence.” I tried to explain that this was how the Sikhs always dressed.

Dishonoring Ramadhan? The Qur’an nowhere mentions the silly dishonoring. I said, “Why should your fasting and Ramadhan be so fragile? Can you cite any reference that Ramadhan can be dishonored in any way?” The police chief responded that according to Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (the ancient Wahhabi Guru) the sacred month is certainly dishonored by eating or drinking outdoors.

“What was Hanbal’s authority, and that too unwritten? Does the senseless law apply to non-Muslims?” I asked. He said, “Imam Hanbal himself is an authority, the law certainly applies to non-Muslims, and the Qadhi knows best.” He didn’t say their pet word, “Wallahu A’lam” (and Allah knows best).

I asked the police to hold on until I could have my Palestinian male nurse make a trip to the nearby court and explain the situation to the Qadhi. Fortunately, I was in high ranking uniform and my request was granted. The nurse returned soon with a “very kind” reconsideration of the verdict. The judge had reduced the sentence from 45 strong lashes to five light whips for each of them. How about the humiliation?!

Now watch out for this Ramadhan if you happen to be in some of the Middle Eastern countries whether you are a Muslim or not. Even in “moderate Islamic” countries you will find all restaurants closed or thickly covered with heavy curtains.

Where is the exception for non-Muslims, the traveler, the sick, the elderly and the *pregnant or indisposed women? In some countries, they must carry a certificate from the relevant authorities!

Laugh or weep?

Al-Qur’an 2:184 …. But if any of you is sick or he is on a journey, he may make up the same number of days later. For those who can go through Abstinence only with hardship, there is a way of redemption: the feeding of an indigent. Any additional charity will bring additional reward….

Another foolish atrocity – Pregnancy and fasting: *The Muslim clergy fail to understand that the unborn fetus, would itself be physically fasting and be dangerously subjected to deprivation from food and drink if the mother is fasting. Moreover, can the tiny bit of flesh witness Ramadhan, an absolute precondition to fasting? Because you cannot see the fetus you can’t imagine the suffering. Did Allah use FAMAN SHAHIDA MINKUM ASH-SHAHR (whoever of you witnesses the month) without reason?

2:185 The month of Ramadhan has been chosen for this collective training since this is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed, a guidance for mankind, clearly explaining the ‘why’ of every Rule. And it is the Criterion of right and wrong. Whoever witnesses this month should participate in the program of Abstinence. But if any of you is sick or on a journey, let him practice Abstinence for the same number of days later. God desires for you ease, and He does not desire hardship for you. The postponement is to enable you to complete the period. The objective of this training is to establish the supremacy of God (on earth) for, He has shown you a well-lighted road, and for you to show gratitude.

IS ANIMAL SACRIFICING THE COMMEMORATION OF HAZRAT IBRAHIM? There is a rampant belief among Muslims that they slaughter animals, sheep, goat, cow, camel in memory of Ibrahim’s a.s. attempted slaughter of his son Ishmael a.s. - That Allah saved Ishmael a.s. by replacing him with a ram sent from heaven. Does Allah play games with His servants? How much more Biblical can one get? By slaughtering animals on the streets in every possible town in the world, Muslims become a laughing stock for all people. Also think of the generations of livestock loss by slaughtering millions upon millions of them on one single day! I have seen in the 1970s slaughtered animals immediately getting incinerated in Makkah since the demand could not keep up with the supply. Can you think of a greater waste, anything more prodigal?

THE MOMENTOUS SACRIFICE - NO RAM, NO ANIMAL:

37:102 And when he was old enough to strive along with him, Abraham said, “O My dear son! I have a vision that I must give you to a life of test and tribulation for a Noble cause. So look, what do you think?” He said, “O My father! Do what you are commanded. God willing, you will find me of the steadfast.” [‘Zibh’ & ‘Zabh’ = Sacrifice = Disregarding comfort for a Noble cause]

37:103 As both of them had surrendered themselves (to Allah), he made Ismail prostrate on his forehead in gratitude. [Contrary to popular tradition Abraham never envisioned or intended to slaughter his son]

37:106 This was indeed a Trial, clear in itself.

[Leaving the prestigious office of Chief Priesthood in Babylon and now the comfort of Syria for the wilderness of the valley of Makkah]

37:107 We exchanged his life for a Momentous Sacrifice. [Please notice here the absence of the Biblical and the traditional myth of a ‘ram’ sent from the heavens. Also, note that slaughtering of a sheep or goat, by no means, can be considered a Momentous Sacrifice. 14:37, 37:102]

Sacrificing animals outside Makkah and other than Hajj is a pagan ritual.

22:37 Neither their meat nor their blood reaches God. What reaches Him is your sincere devotion. He has thus subjected them to you that you manifestly establish the greatness of God in the land for everyone to behold (the objective of Hajj). And to see how magnificent the guidance is that He has bestowed upon you. And (O Prophet) give glad news to all benefactors of humanity. [2:185]

Then there is DUM (Ransom) Err, miss or forget any ritual and pay the penalty. The penalty invariably is the slaughter of another poor sheep or goat (for instant incineration in the 1970s and before. We hear that the meat is now better preserved to be canned and exported. However, I am yet to see such a can).

WHY SHOULD WE CELEBRATE EID-UL-ADHHA?

Because it is the culmination of Hajj designed to be the Glorious Annual International Conference of all humanity to foster brotherhood, justice and equity among all nations, and devise ways to make this planet a better place to live. Think of the United Nations with all its failures in justice and equity. How about United Mankind with Divinely directed morality, brotherhood and justice? (2:196-203, 3:96-97, 22:27-28. Nahr = Camel sacrifice, and no other animal).

Currently the high institution of Hajj has been reduced to a senseless ritual involving much chaos, waste of wealth and person with pagan activities going on. Yet, contrary to the Qur’an, most Muslims think that “performing” Hajj will erase all their sins of a lifetime and make them sinless as if they were newly born!
