[Abraham and Ishmael worked in the region of Mount Safa and Mount Marwah in Makkah, building the Ka’bah. There is nothing wrong in honoring such historical relics - 2:177, 22:28 - God has appointed the Ka’bah as the focal point for all humanity. And that is the real purpose behind the annual Hajj convention and, when announced by the Islamic Central Authority, the ‘Umrah conferences. 2:148, 2:196, 3:96, 22:27-28. 2. Number of times? Left open - although traditionally pilgrims go around them seven times as perhaps you know.
